In 2006 Stevenson was asked to supply testing services to the SH2 Mangatawhiri Deviation. Due to the proximity of the project to our Drury base, we were able to keep costs low and avoid the establishment of an onsite laboratory. An intensive earthworks soils investigation lead by the constructors engineer at the start of the project enabled the contractor to plan earthworks and ensure that soils at or near optimum were available at all times during the large cut and fill operation.

As part of this project a dedicated senior technician supervised a team of up to 3 lab technicians at any one time. Hand Augers, Scala Penetration, Hand Held Shear Vane, Nuclear Densometer Densities, and Water Content testing were carried out in large quantities. A test result summary including GPS co-ordinates was created and maintained by Stevenson to enable the contractor to have live instant access to testing information and location during the project.
